Kunming Changshui Airport will be put into operation to expand Yunnan Air Cargo

At the end of 2011, Kunming Changshui International Airport will be put into operation, which will effectively promote the upgrade and development of Yunnan air cargo and build a large commercial logistics center with aviation logistics as the core fulcrum and multimodal transport as the support.

According to the feasibility study, the cargo throughput of Kunming Changshui International Airport in 2015, 2020 and 2035 will reach 600,000 tons, 950,000 tons and 2.1 million tons respectively.

In the Airport Economic Zone, the construction here is in full swing. According to the plan, the Airport Economic Zone will be centered on Changshui International Airport to build a bonded logistics park, logistics park and other aviation logistics platforms. Adjacent to Changshui International Airport, in addition to the cargo areas, cargo and postal handling centers, and cargo and loan areas planned and constructed by related airlines, Yunnan Airport Logistics Co., Ltd. will also rely on air cargo to capitalize on the advantages of convenient conversion of airlines, railways, and highways. Integrate storage, transportation, distribution, distribution, value-added services and other logistics services and port processing into a comprehensive air cargo area. These logistics platform projects are all supporting and adapting Kunming Changshui International Airport to build concrete measures for the hubs of Southeast Asia and South Asia.

In December 2001, the seventh Party Congress of the Communist Party of China in Yunnan proposed that Yunnan be built into an international major channel linking China to Southeast Asia and South Asia. The construction of a major international aisle includes the “three horizontal and three vertical” pattern in the province, the trans-Asian railways leading to foreign countries, international highways, and international waterways for the Lancang-Mekong River. The aviation network centered on Kunming Hub Airport will greatly improve the accessibility of Yunnan Province and promote the development of Yunnan economy and modern logistics industry.

During the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period, Yunnan will achieve the transition from a large aviation province to a strong aviation province. By 2015, the total number of airports in the province will reach 19, forming a large hub, six medium-sized airports, and 12 small feeder airports. The layout structure will achieve the overall development of the airport.

At present, Yunnan has 12 airports, including one regional hub airport (Kunming Changshui International Airport) and 11 regional airports (Baoshan, Simao, Zhaotong, Xishuangbanna, Mangshi, Lijiang, Dali, Shangri-La, Linyi, Wenshan Tengchong). A total of 258 routes were opened at all airports in the province, and 111 cities were open to navigation. Kunming Airport opened 162 domestic routes connecting 75 domestic cities, connecting 41 international routes and 4 regional routes in 34 international cities. International routes mainly fly to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Japan and South Korea. It has initially formed a route network with Kunming as the center, three provinces and neighboring provinces, large and medium-sized cities in China, southeast Asia and South Asia, and three hub-and-spoke-based structures complementing each other, and has formed a hub airport in Kunming. Airport group.

In 2010, the cumulative cargo throughput of Yunnan Airport reached 290,000 tons, an increase of 6.9% year-on-year. With the commissioning of Kunming Changshui Airport, during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, Yunnan’s route network will extend to more countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and North America. Kunming has a population of 50% of the world within a radius of 4,000 kilometers. The huge aviation market and regional advantages will help Yunnan's air cargo move up to a new level.
