It is reported that the advancement technology expert Renk will introduce a new hybrid concept that can help two-stroke engine users to use the potential of the engine for propulsion or power generation.

The marine hybrid system, called MARHY, is equipped with a waterway gearbox and a propeller shaft clutch that allows a two-stroke engine to be connected to a single motor. This power pack includes an asynchronous motor, active front-end inverter and coupling.

The MARHY marine mixing system can be used for fixed-pitch propellers and controllable pitch propellers. It combines energy storage functions and provides four operating modes: the main propulsion power output supplies power to the ship; the main engine propels the power input power to provide a more powerful propulsion system. Power; the main engine is off, using full electric propulsion; the main engine acts as a generator set and is separated from the propeller.

According to the news, the full redundancy of the MARHY system is in line with the classification requirements of the classification society, including the AVM-APS requirements of the French classification society and the PMRL requirements of the Lloyd's Register. For passenger ships, this means that MARHY meets the requirements for safe return to Hong Kong. For tankers, container ships and crude oil carriers, redundancy ensures that ships transport dangerous goods within restricted areas.

The MARHY system can be used for propeller shafts with a diameter of 250-850 mm. It can also be used by ship owners to reduce the number of generator sets deployed on board. The generated electricity can be stored in the battery or generated by the main unit.
