It is reported that Rolls-Royce and Spanish energy company GasNaruralFenosa have signed a cooperation agreement to develop and install the Bergen pure gas engine on the "AbelMatutes" ferry of Baleà ria.
The contract involves Rolls-Royce's first installation of a purely gas-powered engine for a European national ferry that operates outside Norwegian waters.
The "AbelMatutes" ferry is a 29,670-ton ROPAX ferry, delivered at the Hijosde JBarreras shipyard in Vigo, Spain, in 2010. It will use the Bergen C26:33L6AG LNG power auxiliary machine to provide 1560kWe of clean energy to park in the port of Barcelona and Palmade Mallorca. Reduce emissions.
Adolfo Utor, president of Bale à ria Group, said: “The first use of natural gas fuel on ferries is a very important milestone, which has made us an industry pioneer. The potential for more sustainable fuel development, in addition to reducing CO2 emissions by 40%, It also reduces fuel costs. In the near future, you may see the 'AbelMatutes' operating in the emission control area."
Bale à ria and Rolls-Royce will complete the engine installation preparations in early 2015, after which the ferry will enter the dry dock as planned. The new marine engine will be installed in the electric cabin of the ship as a whole, and will work together with the auxiliary equipment on board.
After the arrival of the “AbelMatutes†ferry, the gas-powered engine will be connected to the onshore gas distribution infrastructure or the LNG gas tank placed on the ship, so that the ferry will use natural gas to generate electricity when it arrives or leaves the terminal instead of using heavy oil as before. .
Bergen's gas-powered engine technology will reduce pollutant emissions and reduce emissions by nearly 4,000 tons of carbon dioxide, more than 60 tons of nitrogen oxides and 6 tons of sulfur oxides per year.
