Motor vehicle emissions are the largest source of atmospheric fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in Beijing. The reporter recently learned from the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau that Beijing will strive to implement the sixth-stage motor vehicle emission standards in 2016 and simultaneously improve the quality of oil products. Relevant standards are being developed. This means that in order to control air pollution, Beijing will further tighten vehicle emission standards.
At present, there are 51 effective local environmental protection standards in Beijing, including 33 air pollutant emission control standards, two water pollutant emission control standards, and 16 environmental management technical standards. The person in charge of the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau said that Beijing has basically formed the most stringent local environmental protection standard system with pollutant emission standards as the main body.
According to reports, Beijing's pollutant emission limits are the most stringent in the country, and some standards have reached the international advanced level. For example, the fifth phase of the vehicle oil standard was implemented on May 31, 2012, and the fifth stage motor vehicle emission standard was implemented on March 1, 2013. At present, the current motor vehicle standard in Beijing is basically in line with Europe.
