James McElya, chairman and CEO of Cooper-Standard, a US auto parts maker, recently said: “Cooper Standard has gone out of bankruptcy, and now the company’s balance sheet is very healthy.â€
In August 2009, the Cooper Standard filed for bankruptcy protection with US courts for a debt crisis of up to US$1.1 billion. After repaying 620 million U.S. dollars in debt, this year's Cooper Standards finally went out of bankruptcy protection through the issuance of 450 million U.S. dollar corporate bonds.
The Cooper Standard recently reorganized the board of directors. The new board of directors has seven directors. Four of them are new directors, including Glenn August, the chairman of private equity fund Oak Hill Advisors, and former Honda executive Larry Jutte.
Cooper Standard produces seals, hoses and vibration damping systems, and employs 16,000 people worldwide.
