As the first small shield tunnel in Hunan Province, the Wanjiali Road Power Tunnel has many technical problems such as narrow shaft space and low efficiency of unearthing. In this regard, the Changsha Municipal Works Bureau organized the China Construction Fifth Bureau and the China Railway Mountain River to repeatedly communicate and repeatedly Optimized, tailored to the characteristics of the project to create a small + shaped shield machine, using a single-sided layout different from the large shield, arranging dozens of equipment in a limited space.

The shield machine that originated this time is tailor-made for the project. The shield pipe has an inner diameter of 3.6 meters and an excavation diameter of 4.35 meters. It is only half the size of the subway shield. It can be said to be a "mini" shield. machine.

The length of the shield machine is 118 meters, but the length of the shield starting well is only 29 meters, so the shield machine needs to be split by the extension of the pipeline. In this process, the entire shield machine will be divided into 17 sections, the cutter head and the main machine will first dig down the well, and the rest will be constructed on the ground. As the cutter head and the main machine dig forward, the rear shield tail section will be suspended. Down the well, the shield machine will be integrated into the whole body in about 35 days.

The China Railway No. 13 shield machine will be drilled southward from the No. 2 shield well, and will be dismantled after reaching the No. 3 shield well. The total length is 2559.95 meters. It is expected to pass through in September 2019.
