Carbon dioxide fracturing technology for the first time succeeded in the construction of domestic CBM wells

On March 7, the reporter learned from the special operations department of the Zhongyuan Oilfield that the first successful application of the carbon dioxide fracturing technology in the gas wells of the LG-3 well in the Huaibei Mining Group of Anhui Province was successful. This technology is independently designed and constructed by professional oil and gas technicians. It has completely independent intellectual property rights and is at the leading level in China.

At present, most of the domestic coalbed methane reservoirs are reformed using fracturing techniques that use water-based fracturing fluids to carry sand, which is harmful to coal seams. The reservoir-renovating process of carbon dioxide injection fracturing sand carrying sand has relatively minor damage to the coal seam and has been widely used in the United States, and has achieved good results. This technology injects carbon dioxide into the coal seam to reduce the partial pressure of methane in the coal reservoir and accelerate the desorption of methane, which can effectively displace methane from the coal seam and increase the single well output of the coal bed gas. The injected gas also increases the driving force of the coalbed gas flow to the wellbore, which is favorable for the pressure-sealed coalbed gas reservoir to overcome the flow resistance in the low permeability coal seam and increase the production and recovery of the coalbed gas well, which has a good application prospect.

In 2007, Anhui Huaibei Mining Group signed the Luling CBM Development Contract with the underground special operations office of Zhongyuan Oilfield. In the LG-3 CBM well fracturing construction, the oilfield professional and technical personnel rely on the leading technology of domestic coal seam gas pressure cracking and drainage, fully learn from the successful experience of the carbon dioxide fracturing in the natural gas well, carefully compile the fracturing plan, and finely organize the on-site construction. A number of fracturing measures have been adopted to effectively overcome technical difficulties such as complex coal seam structure, unstable strata, and large quantities of sand, ensuring the safe and high-quality construction of the experimental well.

The successful testing of a number of new technologies made Zhongyuan Oilfield the first company in China to successfully apply carbon dioxide fracking CBM well technology. At the same time, it also marked a major breakthrough in the carbon dioxide fracturing technology and technology of coalbed methane wells in Zhongyuan Oilfield, providing strong technical support for the large-scale exploitation of coalbed methane resources and improvement of CBM recovery in China.
